I had been maintaining Martin's aquarium for a number of months, he had a 45 litre tropical set up which was becoming run down due to a heavier and heavier work schedule. The families enthusiasm grew as the tank looked better and better, we had discussed going for a larger set up, and settled on something at least 4 times the size.
We began coming up with lots of options from rocky Cichlid setups to mass shoals of community fish, both of us getting excited with each new scenario. I then received an amazing phone call, Martin had seen some aquascapes online and contacted renowned aquascaper George Farmer about a heavily planted aquascape, and he was flying in from Belgium to create a custom setup, and wanted to meet me to help with its maintenance and future plans.
I have been watching George's aquascapes for a long time and never thought I would get the opportunity not only to see first hand one being created but to be able to have a one to one lesson in plant care and aquascaping from a true artist.
It was an amazing experience and I was able to walk through a truly stunning creation and talk to someone just as enthusiastic as myself about the hobby of fishkeeping, making a brief appearance on one of his aquascaping videos made it a truly unforgettable experience for a fish geek like myself.
I have had the pleasure of watching this aquarium mature and become something truly special, and the client is more excited than ever with his aquarium... believe it or not with something bigger and better on the horizon.
